How Producers constructs newspapers that appeals to target audiences.

How Producers constructs newspapers that appeals to target audiences

For this assignment i was asked to make a report explaining how media producers construct newspapers that appeal to specific target audiences, to do this I’m going to use compare 2 newspapers against each other and show the differences between the 2. the papers im going to be evaluating are The Sun and The Times.

The Sun Newspaper:

The Sun Newspaper appeals to a target audience of 18-40 year olds, The sun mainly appeals to the male market, it is clear its a man themed newspaper as it filled with football pictures, news, cheap adverts such as lottery, paint balling, a page 3 models, cheap shops to shop at, this tells us that it is aimed at people with low class people because temping people with cheap offers. Another way of telling its aimed at low class people is that there is not much text, this tells us that people who read this paper dont like reading and have a poor education. The sun uses large pictures to use up alot of the space as there is not much text.

Here is an example of one on the sun's frontpage:

Below are the statistics from The Sun's newspaper, the statistics basically tells you What gender reads this newspaper, What age group reads this newspaper and What social class reads this newspaper.

The Times Newspaper:

The Times is completely different to The Sun Newspaper for one the times features alot of text, basically this suggest that people who read this newspaper are very well educated and like to read, The times doesn't feature many pictures because the readers dont focus on the pictures they focus on the stories. The price for this newspaper cost considerably more than the sun newspaper.

Here is an example from a front page of a The Times Newspaper.

Up above are the Statistics of the Times readers, The statistics tells you What gender reads this newspaper, What age group reads this newspaper and What social class reads this newspaper. These statistics show that elderly men over 65+ are the main readers of this paper.

The producers use these demographics above to determined who's going to read there newspapers, for example the sun target the younger audience by adding celebrity stories and a quick overview of the story so people dont have to read pages of text. As demographics show that mainly men read their newspaper they add many things men would enjoy such as a page 3 model, quick money adverts, crosswords.

As with the Times newspaper its mainly aimed at the older audience as the demographics show that the most people who buy this newspaper are over 65+ which means their possibly retired. The demographics also show that more men read this newspaper than women
It's important to know how much the audience earns as if they earn alot of income they will be interested in travelling whereas if they dont earn much income they're going to be interested in how to can get more money or how they can save money.
